A settlement has been reached in a whistleblower class action lawsuit brought against Olympus Corporation.
The whistleblowers' share of the settlement will be $110,000.
The Supreme Court ruling stated Olympus Corporation had unlawfully punished Masaharu Hamada, an employee of the company, for relaying a complaint from a supplier that its best employees were being lured away by Olympus Corporation, and that Masaharu Hamada should be reinstated to his original position. But Olympus Corporation refused to comply with the ruling, resulting in another lawsuit brought forward by Masaharu Hamada.
After an eight year courtroom battle with Olympus Corporation, whistleblower Masaharu Hamada will not only receive a financial settlement but also a promise from Olympus Corporation to stop harassing him.
